Home Security Survey
An officer will survey your home by checking doors, windows, locks, lighting, and landscaping, and alert you to burglary vulnerabilities and other security weaknesses.
Neighborhood Watch
Meet periodically with your neighbors and police officers. Discuss neighborhood concerns and learn how you and your neighbors can “watch out” for one another.
Business Security Survey
An officer will survey your business by checking doors, windows, locks, lighting, and landscaping, and alert you to burglary vulnerabilities and other security weaknesses.
Minnesota Crime Alert Network
Join a network of retailers, property managers, apartment managers, hospitals, schools, and others in the community who are sharing information about crimes, via fax or e-mail. The purpose of the network is to prevent crimes, solve crimes, identify or apprehend criminals, recover stolen property, or locate missing and/or endangered persons. Vacation House Check
Officers will check your home periodically during your absence, whether you are gone for days, weeks, or months. Call a few days before leaving and we will add you to the list.
Operation Identification
Mark your valuables for ready identification by law enforcement agencies. SLMPD will assign you a unique number, loan you an electric engraver, and provide window stickers.
Minnesota’s Night to Unite
One of the best ways to keep crime from affecting you and your neighbors is to get to know each other, even if it is just on a casual basis. Minnesota’s Night to Unite (National Night Out), held on the first Tuesday of August each year, provides an excellent opportunity for neighbors and police officers to become better acquainted. to residents and business owners in Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay.
