Traffic Safety Concern

The SLMPD has received complaints of drivers passing other motorists on the right or shoulder of the road.  Minnesota State Statute 169.18 subd. 4(4), prohibits motorists from passing another vehicle on the right, even if that vehicle is making a left hand turn, unless a specific passing lane has been provided.  Using the right hand turn lane, bicycle lane or shoulder of the road to pass another vehicle, even if that vehicle is making a left hand turn, is not only prohibited under Minnesota State Statute, it is also extremely dangerous.  SLMPD officers will be enforcing this prohibited driving conduct.  A video showing the dangers of passing vehicles on the right has been posted to the SLMPD Facebook page.  Thank you for helping us keep our roads safe for all to enjoy.
