South Lake Crime Fund finances new AEDs

A sincere thank you to the South Lake Minnetonka Crime Prevention Fund for financing the purchase of four new automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) for the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department.  The department currently employs a fleet of 11 AEDs in the field while responding to medical emergencies.  Four of those were becoming obsolete and were no longer being serviced by the manufacturer.  The addition of the four new units mitigates the risk of a critical failure during an emergency.  It also means that all of our AEDs are the same model so the accessories (shock pads, batteries, etc.) are common for all units.

In 1999 the Crime fund purchased the first AEDs for the department.  The very first deployment of one of those initial units was used to save one of our own officers who was suffering a medical emergency while off-duty.

The South Lake Minnetonka Crime Fund has a long history of helping to make the south lake area a safer community.  (Date Posted February 2, 2016)
